KILLer 'zine back to Interviews

1. Please give us a brief story of your band ?
Steve: Embalming Theatre formed back in the end of 1999/beginning of 2000. The band consists of Marco (vocals), Dave (guitars), René (guitars), Heinz (drums) and Steve (bass and backing vocals). Back then it was only thought to be a sideproject to the members' former band Aeternum (with the exception of Marco - but he had done the vocals on Aeternum's first demo in 1994). We recorded our first songs on the Easter days in 2000 and tried to find some bands to release some Split-7"es. Dave was in contact with Agathocles, and since he is a great fan of them and claims to have everything they put out, we got them to take part in our first release. That's how it started. Since then we released a lot of other stuff, including a full-length CD, a Mini-CD and a split-CD with Torture Incident, and many split 7"es.

2. What was the response of the people like?
Steve: I would say it was good, because we became well known in the underground very soon. Indeed, we hadn't counted on any success, but when Razorback asked us if we were interested in putting out a CD, we were quite happy.

3. What are your lyrics talking about?
Steve: About some of the sick things that happen in this world. Like the woman who killed her husband and served him to their kids. Or about a woman who put one baby into the fridge (and the other one into the woods), or the man that cut off his own penis and tongue after taking drugs. Or kids playing soccer with human skulls. And so on.

4. Who or what's band are your influences?
Steve: All those old Grindcore-bands: Carcass, Terrorizer, Repulsion, S.O.B., Impetigo, Filthy Christians, Cryptic Slaughter, Extreme Noise Terror, Doom, etc.

5. How would you best describe your style ?
Steve: Grindcore with some Death Metal and Hardcore elements.

6. Do you have anything else comming out soon?
Steve: Our new CD should be out this December.

7. Who's in the current line-up ?
Steve: Still the same as in the beginning: Marco, Dave, René, Heinz, and me.

8. Do you play many live show?
Steve: We didn't recently, and the last years it was about 4-6 each year. But we already have 3 gigs planned in the first two months of next year.

9. How's the scene in your area ?
Steve: I'm not much of a connaisseur of the underground, but there are some promising bands around, like Disparaged, Requiem, Carnal Decay, Britney... There are a lot more, of course, but I don't have that much contacts anymore.

10. Do you know about Thai ?
Steve: Not much. Only that there are lots of tourists from here.

11. Please tell us your top 5 cd's
Steve: At The Gates - Slaughter of the soul; Bolt Thrower - Realm Of Chaos; As I Lay Dying - Shadows are security; Amorphis - Tales of thousand lakes; Extreme Noise Terror - Being and nothing.

12. A last word for Thai metalheads.
Steve: Keep on grinding and spreading the addiction to brutal musick!
