1. first off, please provide
some background information on the band. Who's in the band, what do they
play, when did you guys form,etc.Also, how did you come up with the name
"Embalming Theatre" for the band?
The roots of ET is Maggots (1995, one demo and one livetape), then we
had a line-up change (drums/ vox/ guitar) and changed the bandname in
Antropophagus ( 1998/99). Unfortunately an italian act released their
debut at the same time, so we had to change the bandname once again. So
we found Embalming Theatre, and that is a kind of "nickname"
(given by british students) for the place where they embalm bodies. ET
is a classic 5-piece-ensemble (d, g, g, b, v).
2. You guys have released 7" w/ Agathocles,
Unholy grave, and most recently Final Exit. Of these releases, which did
you enjoy most and which do you consider to be your best material?
Well, Dave (guitar) has all released AG stuff (really everything!!), so
that's for sure the one we enjoyed most (also Burt was satisfied with
it). But the new material for the forthcoming releases will be definitely
better, more brutal and even faster, I think. Check it out with a new
mp3 track on our homepage.
3. All the Embalming Theatre releases so far have
contained fake pictures of the band and all you guys have used pseudo-names,
why? Is it a joke or do you guys not wish to be known?
No human being on this planet is interested to see pictures of us, can't
be possible (otherwise lock up this guy!). So Embalming Theatre releases
will always feature fake pictures and fake names. Didn't you laugh at
them, did you?
4. How frequently do you guys play live? Are most
of your shows played locally or outside of Switzerland?
ET will play the first gig this summer at the mountains of death II open-air
(with Aborted, Deepred,....) and at the hell-vetia day II with Deranged
and a couple of swiss bands. Let's see, may be there will be shows outside
of Switzerland too.
5. What are some bands you guys are listening
to right now? What are some bands you'd like to put a split 7" out
with?
Heinz (d): listen to Eric Clapton, Bryan Adams
Steve (b): listen to Anathema, Diabolic, At the Gates, ENT, dreams of
a split with G-Anx
Dave (g): listen to AGX, Rotten Sound, Defaced Creation,, ENT, ND, split
with Groinchurn, ENT,..
Trinkler (g): listen to Kelly Familiy and would like to do a split with
‚em (but none of the rest of the band)
Marco (v): listen to Winter, Demilich, Elijah's Mantle, Fate, Prophecy,
Xysma, and I'd like a split with
Excruciating Terror, LDOH, Maggot Shoes (is planed)
6. I am curious to know, as Swiss, what do you
think about America's "war against terrorism"? What are your
feelings on the Palestina/Israeli conflict?
Embalming Theatre is not political. But Steve (that's his personal opinion
about it) thinks, that your country is celebrating a kind of alibi with
that strategy. He's also noticing a massive wave of patriotism (and sometimes
a little bit doubtful)
7. What does the future hold for Embalming Theatre?
Any future releases planned?
We should be featured on 2-3 compilations and a split 7" with Terrorism
(USA) Sewn Shut (SWE) and a split release with Maggot Shoes are planned.
At the end of the year we hopefully could release a split CD with Gored
Face (USA).
